Video Visit Troubleshooting

iOS (iPhone) System Permissions 

To enable the camera and microphone on your iPhone:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Privacy.
  3. Tap Camera or Microphone.
  4. Toggle the switch next to the app you want to allow access to your camera or microphone.
  5. If you want to allow all apps to access your camera or microphone, toggle the switch next to Allow Apps to Access Camera/Microphone.
  6. You can also choose to allow access to your camera or microphone only when the app is in use by toggling the switch next to Allow Access When App is in Use.

Android System Permissions 

To enable the camera and microphone on Android:

  1. Visit the gear icon to open Settings on your Android device. 
  2. Tap Security and Privacy
  3. Tap Privacy.
  4. Tap Privacy Controls.
  5. To turn on/off camera access and microphone access, tap the Camera Access and Microphone Access toggles. 
  6. To allow or deny camera and microphone permissions for specific apps, tap Permission Manager.
  7. Scroll down the Permission Manager page and tap Camera or Microphone
  8. Tap on an app in the Not Allowed list and select Allow only while using the app.
  9. You can also tap on an app in the Allowed only while in use list to deny the permissions.

Browser Permissions (Safari)

Safari should give you a pop-up notification in Safari to allow it. If you’ve accidentally declined access, you can adjust the permission. To do this:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select Safari in the menu bar.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Under the Safari Settings select the Websites tab.
  5. Tap Microphone on the sidebar.
  6. Change the access for whichever website it is. 
  7. If you want to always allow microphone access in Safari, change the setting under When visiting websites at the bottom right of the window to Allow.

Browser Permissions (Google Chrome on iOS)

To adjust the browser permissions for Google Chrome on iOS:

  1. Open Chrome Chrome on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to a site that wants to use your microphone or camera.
  3. When prompted, tap Allow or Don’t Allow.
  4. To immediately edit your preference, tap Edit.

To change a site’s camera and microphone permissions:

  1. Open Chrome Chrome on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. On the left of your address bar, tap Camera or Microphone. These icons only appear if you previously changed your camera and microphone permissions for the site.
  3. Turn Permissions for these devices On or Off.
  4. If camera or microphone access is off, you can turn it on again in your device settings.

Browser Permissions (Google Chrome on Android)

To adjust the browser permissions for Google Chrome on Android:

  1. Open the Chrome app Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Go to a site that wants to use your microphone and camera.
  3. When prompted, tap Allow or Block.

Please note the following:

  • Allowed sites: Sites can start to record when you’re on the site. If you’re using a different Chrome tab or a different app, a site can’t start recording.
  • Blocked sites: Some sites won’t work if you block them. For example, you won’t be able to join a video conference.

To change a site’s camera and microphone permissions:

  1. Open the Chrome app Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Tap More and thenSettings to the right of the address bar.
  3. Tap Site Settings.
  4. Tap Microphone or Camera.
  5. Tap to turn the microphone or camera on or off.

If you see the site you want to use under Blocked:

  1. Tap the site.
  2. Tap Access your microphone.
  3. Tap Allow.

Browser Permissions (Google Chrome on Desktop/Laptop)

  1. Open Chrome Chrome on your desktop/laptop.
  2. Go to a site that wants to use your microphone and camera.
  3. When prompted, choose Allow or Block.

Please note the following:

  • Allowed sites: Sites can start to record when you’re on the site. If you’re using a different Chrome tab or a different app, a site can’t start recording.
  • Blocked sites: Some sites won’t work if you block them. For example, you won’t be able to join a video conference.

To change a site’s camera and microphone permissions:

  1. Open Chrome Chrome on your desktop/laptop.
  2. Click MoreMoreat the top right of the screen.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Click Privacy and Security
  5. Select Site settings
  6. Select Camera or Microphone.
  7. Select the option you want as your default setting.
  8. Review your blocked and allowed sites.
  9. To remove an existing exception or permission, click Delete Delete to the right of the site.
  10. To allow a site that you’ve already blocked, select the site’s name under Not Allowed and change the camera or microphone permission to Allow.
