Lots of people have lost weight on the keto diet, but it’s not the easiest diet to tackle on your own.

Why? Because the keto diet limits carbs and prioritizes fats and proteins. If you love pasta and sweets (and let’s be real, who doesn’t), it can be difficult to stick with.

The Noom Weight program isn’t keto-based, but it provides you with the support you need to power through the lifestyle.

Our team is here to support you through the ups and downs of your weight loss journey, no matter which diet you follow.

Is Noom keto friendly?

When you start a restrictive diet, it’s easy to think you’ll be able to maintain the lifestyle on your own.

But unless you have a private chef, it can be tricky to meet all of the diet’s guidelines on a regular basis.

Keto is no exception.

The goal of the keto diet is to reach ketosis—a metabolic state where you burn fat and ketones for energy instead of glucose.

To reach this state, you have to cut your carb intake to 50 grams per day or less.

The typical keto diet is made up of about 75% of calories from fat, 20% from protein, and 5% from carbohydrates.

Some of the foods keto dieters are encouraged to eat are:

  • meats
  • cheeses
  • eggs
  • nuts
  • oils
  • low-carb vegetables like spinach, asparagus, and avocado

While limiting foods like:

  • grains
  • sugar
  • rice
  • beans
  • fruit
  • higher-carb vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and corn

Safe to say, the keto diet leaves you with a lot to track.

Noom’s app and coaching make monitoring what you eat feel smooth and easy.

Our program provides you with the resources you need to manage cravings and consume enough nutrients, so you can follow the keto diet long-term.

How does Noom work with keto?

Here at Noom, we’ll never expect you to stick to diet guidelines out of sheer willpower. We take a holistic approach to weight loss to help you make positive lifestyle changes in the long term—including sticking to keto if that’s your goal.

Noom’s food tracker helps you get the nutrients your body needs

When you’re on the keto diet (or other low-carb diets), it’s easy to eat too much fat and protein and not enough key nutrients from other food groups.

Unchecked, you may develop health problems like digestive issues and heart and kidney damage.

The Noom weight-loss program keeps your diet balanced.

You’ll log your daily food intake, and the three-color system will help you identify foods that have the most nutrients and the lowest caloric density:

  • Green foods—like vegetables, fruit, and whole grains—have the highest nutrient and lowest caloric density
  • Yellow foods—like lean meats, low-fat dairy, and beans—have a lower nutrient and higher caloric density
  • Orange foods—like sweets, oils, and red meat—have the highest caloric density and the lowest nutrient density

It’s easy to overdo orange foods on the keto diet (did somebody say bacon?) with its emphasis on fats and proteins.

Using the Noom food tracker, you can make sure you’re eating enough keto-friendly green and yellow foods, too—like spinach, lettuce, zucchini, and eggs.

And as you log your meals, the tracker automatically tracks your caloric intake to help you stay within a range that supports continued weight loss.

You can even monitor your water intake with the Noom food tracker. This feature is especially helpful for keto dieters because people in ketosis urinate more frequently and are at a higher risk of dehydration.

And the Noom recipe database offers a library of keto-friendly meals and snacks you can reference to add delicious new foods to your rotation.

Noom’s daily lessons help you understand and manage cravings

Does anything make you want an everything bagel more than knowing you can’t have one? To stay in ketosis, you need to keep those cravings in check.

Noom’s psychology-based weight loss program helps you understand your triggers and make more nutritionally rewarding choices when cravings strike. It also helps you push aside unhelpful all-or-nothing thinking that can knock you off track.

Based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Noom’s daily lessons will help you understand your eating habits and adjust unhealthy patterns. You’ll learn how to make healthy choices within the keto diet plan in a way that feels satisfying—not sacrificial.

Noom will also set you up with a coach who can help you stay on track. They’ll hold you accountable to your goals and suggest alternative ways to handle those triggers, so you can sustain the keto lifestyle.

Noom helps you push past plateaus

Every weight loss journey has its ups and downs—and keto is no different.

As a keto eater, you might experience weight-loss plateaus for a number of reasons:

  • Consuming too many carbs
  • Consuming too many calories through high-fat foods
  • Struggling to find new foods you enjoy
  • Experiencing high stress levels
  • Sleeping poorly

Whatever challenge you’re facing, the Noom program will give you the support you need to get back on track with your weight loss goals.

Your Noom coach will regularly ask, “How did it go?” about your objectives, whether they’re keto-based or not. If your answer is “great,” your coach will revel in your success.

If your answer is “not so great,” they’re there to help you figure out roadblocks and come up with an action plan.

When you join Noom, you’ll also be introduced to a group of other Noomers who are working toward similar goals and can both celebrate your wins and support you when you’re struggling.
